Mountain Mushroom Festival

Kentucky Agate, the “gem of the hills”, will be again be a main focus at the 13th annual Agate, Gem, & Mineral Show. The agate is prized by collectors world-wide for its bright red bands and other spectacular colors and is only found in Estill and a few other surrounding counties. Agate became Kentucky’s official state rock by the Kentucky legislature in 2000. Agates will be for sale in several forms from slabs to jewelry revealing the hidden beauty.

Other features of the show include mineral specimen sales, fossil sales, petrified wood, demonstrations, and jewelry showing art from rocks and minerals. Much of the jewelry includes skills of the crafter from wire wrapping, silversmithing, faceting, to carving. Lapidary skills of the vendors show how slabs have been cut from rock, shaped and polished cabochons, and other stone-working skills.

The show will be at the Central Office gym of the Estill County Public Schools, 253 Main St., Irvine. Enter at the back of the building. Hours for the show will be: Fri., April 24, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sat., April 25, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sun., April 26 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is free.

All work in the arts and crafts booths must be original creations made by hand. No kits are allowed. Demonstrations are encouraged. First time applicants need to include three photographs of items you plan to sell with your application form and booth payment. These photos facilitate our jury process and will be returned to you. Those who are Kentucky Crafted, Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, or Appalachian Artisan Center members will be accepted until the quota for a medium is filled. Exhibitors MUST participate on both days of the festival to be in the arts and crafts area.

 A variety of booths abound in the non-arts & crafts area and are sure to be of interest to all ages.  Check them out on Broadway.  They include educational, health related, non-profit groups, games, and specialty foods such as KY Proud products and baked goods.  Children and youth will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities.  Free items will be given away at some booths.  Some booths will be providing services directly to our festival vendors such as free water, diaper changing station, and free samples.

 

First time applicants need to include three photographs of items you plan to sell with your application form and booth payment.  Booths will be accepted until the quota is filled and jury process met.

 

Direct sales and commercial booths are not accepted.   

The Twin City Kruzers Car Club will host a Car Show at the Mountain Mushroom Festival Saturday, April 25 in downtown Irvine at Mack Street and Main Street. Gates will open at 8 a.m. The car show registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a registration fee of $15. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries.
Trophies will be awarded in three categories by years: 2000-2020, 1979-1999, and 1978 and before. They include trophies for all three categories: Trophy for Best Ford, Trophy for Best Mopar, Trophy for Best GM, Trophy for Best Truck, and Trophy for Best of Show. One trophy will be given for the Best Import and Best Rat Rod. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. Judging will be done by out of town judges.

Also there will be a 50/50 pot, door prizes, and a food vendor on site. Over $500 of gift card certificates will be given at 2:30 p.m. DJ services will be provided by Stack of Wax DJ Wes Thomas.

In case of rain on Saturday the show will be delayed until Sunday, April 26.

 Irvine-Ravenna Woman's Club Student Art Show

See the talent that local students possess at the Middle School and High School Art Show during the Mountain Mushroom Festival. Open to everyone.  Come on In!

When: Saturday, April 25(10a.m. –5 p.m.) and Sunday, April 26(1 –5 p.m.) 
Where:  Horizon Adult Daycare, 17 Broadway, Irvine.

Categories:
• High School:  ink, water color, mixed media, and digital art.
• Middle School:  mixed media,drawing,and painting.

Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rdplace winners will receive ribbons and cash prizes from the sponsor, the Irvine-Ravenna Woman's Club.  A grand prize winner will also be recognized from each schoolwith an extra cash prizeand ribbon.  Entries will be judged by Estill Arts Council members.The show will be open to the public and free of charge.
